MAD Company sprang to life in 2022, when a tight-knit cohort of LAMDA Classical Acting Masters graduates found themselves in NYC, eager to continue creating. Fueled by a love of classical theater and a deep-rooted commitment to ensemble work, the company made its debut in the spring of 2023 with Romeo and Juliet at the Abrons Arts Center. Sold-out performances, glowing reviews, and a fast-growing network of NYC creatives launched MAD Company full speed ahead!
That fall, the company ventured into a new medium with its very first audio drama, Frankenstein, adapted and directed by company members Helena Mueller and Lauren Zbylski. The success of Frankenstein cemented audio drama as a vital part of MAD Company's artistic landscape.
Since its inaugural season, MAD Company has continued to produce both main stage and audio productions, including an Off-Broadway run of Hamlet at Theatre Row and an audio drama adaptation of A Christmas Carol. Beyond the stage and studio, the company has also forged partnerships with small local businesses, bringing live performance to neighborhoods and boroughs across New York City.
Now under all-female leadership, MAD Company is guided by Executive Director Helena Mueller (succeeding founding Executive Director James Hale), Artistic Director Lauren Zbylski, and Marketing Director Maddi Albregts.
